Lost Your Inspiration?

Lately, I've been feeling a bit torn on which direction I should take when it comes to my career in publishing and media. Should I focus more on the writing and editing aspect of the industry or should I channel my efforts into the creative side of styling and photography?

"Life's full of tough choices, ain't it?" - Yes, I mock myself in Disney character voices!

Anyway, until I figure my next move out, I'm doing what any working, fashion conscious, soon-to-be 28 year old would do....spend money! :-) At least this time it's money that is being well spent on research.

Double Trouble - Zigi Soho Michelline Sandals

The end of summer is near and with that comes all the new fall trends that are saturating the market. However, Mother Nature seems to be enjoying rocking her opened toe strappy sandals a little too much because New York just got hit with a 90 degree heat wave that will probably last the entire week! I won't complain too much about it though since it does give me the chance to wear the Zigi Soho Michelline Sandals for my birthday!

Yes, I am a firm believer in "when the shoes fit...buy it in every color.".

Nevermind for Paperfox - Shoedazzle Denim

Prepare to turn heads ladies!

On August 13th, Shoedazzle announced the exclusive launch of the premium denim collection Nevermind for Paper Fox. The new line is a premium denim collection that was designed exclusively in Los Angeles and features authentic vintage washes and sleek fashion-forward silhouettes. All of that sounds like great wording for a press release so I'm here to give you the story from what I know about the collection first hand.

The collection will release new styles every month which will keep it in line with Shoedazzle monthly shoe club releases. So far, the prices have ranged from $69.95-$79.95 (VIP)/$110.95-$129.95 (Reg) which honestly is a steal given the detailing and materials used on the denim in this line. And trust me, I've gone so far as to spend $169 on a pair of patch work leather denim from Guess so...yeah...I know...I've compared.

For my first pair, I chose the Elissa. I'm sure you don't need me to explain why (statement piece, helloooo).

I had absolutely no idea how I was styling these jeans and I honestly still don't but they are absolutely beautiful. You can very clearly see the craftsmanship and details put into this one style.

For my first time wearing them, I paired it with a simple white button down that had a lace up back feature, a cocktail ring and a pair of my black Steve Madden heels. I really tried to keep everything else simple so that I wouldn't take away from the beauty of the jeans.

Are they worth the $79.95 VIP member price tag? Absolutely!

However, before you check out I would definitely recommend getting yourself measured beforehand. These do run true to size but they didn't have a lot of stretch in them so they will definitely hug all of your curves. If you're in between sizes, I would probably recommend going up one size but even with that I'm a bit hesitant. I picked out my normal size and I had a little bit of trouble getting them on the first time. When I say trouble, I don't mean like that girl trying to get on her jeans in the youtube video that's going around :). What I mean is I had to do a little shimmy and shake to get them on over my thighs and when I finally did, I had to do a little "dip it low" to get them over my humps and situated on my waist the way I wanted. <---I did tell you I would be completely honest in my reviews.

Shoedazzle & Yogurtland

I don’t know why but I’ve always been a last minute person and it’s beginning to drive me crazy. For example, I’ve seen Shoedazzle and Yogurtland post about their contest probably 5 times a day on every single social media channel that I follow them on but yet, I still waited for the last minute to decide to go to Yogurtland to take pictures. Now cue the dramatics…

Ever since I started working in NYC, I have been trying to get used to travelling without my own car and on public transportation. I swear it is seriously the worst having to figure out if I need to take the red line to the orange and then to the yellow and heavens forbids one of those lines are delayed or out of service for a few hours...(-_-) I can't...

Luckily, when I searched for a Yogurtland location, I saw there was one walking distance away from Penn Station.

I walked into Yogurtland and decided to try the Red Velvet Cupcake Batter and French Vanilla mixed with a Cookie and Chocolate Yogurt for my photoshoot. Yum!

Once I added all of my toppers, I ran off to catch the train. It probably wasn't the brightest idea to get frozen yogurt right before a 45 minute train ride but it was probably one of the funniest moments that I've had on the LIRR in a long time. I had a ton of bags with me, my two yogurts and had my ipod blasting #Selfie by The Chainsmokers. Now just imagine me on the train ride home, head thumping to #Selfie.

"Can you guys help me pick a filter? I don't know if I should go with XX Pro or Valencia I wanna look tan What should my caption be? I want it to be clever How about "Livin' with my bitches, hash tag LIVE" I only got 10 likes in the last 5 minutes Do you think I should take it down? Let me take another selfie"

All the while I'm on the train singing and taking my Yogurtland Selfie's!

Ah, the things that I do for good content. Anyway, I finally made it back home and changed to take the pictures for the contest!

I have to admit that when I manage to talk myself into buying a pair of flats, I normally try to find a pair that is extremely comfortable but still cute and stylish. When I saw these Dr. Scholls online, I was a bit hesitant because they were just...regular. There was nothing that made these call out to me - no bling or stylish design, but I still decided to give them a chance.

I can't really rave much about them because they are so simple, however, these are probably one of the most comfortable and practical pair of flats that I have in my shoe collection. It seriously feels like I'm walking on tiny air clouds under my feet. If you're looking for a simple and practical shoe for long walks to and from the office then stop by your local DSW and pick these up for $49.95.

Hi loves! I hope you're all having a fantastic day. I've been running around like crazy trying to get a handle on things and catch up on all of my work. I've been posting a lot on my Instagram page so if you aren't following me there make sure you do now @Candycoatedclosets. I'm going to have a few surprises coming up in the next few weeks. Now onto this outfit...

For the past five months or so, I've been deep into the pencil skirt trend. I'm not sure if it's because it's too hot to wear pants or if I'm just too fat to fit into my jeans anymore but I have an arsenal of tight pencil skirts to wear everywhere now. So I really wanted to put together a look surrounding that that could easily transition from day to night.

Like I said, this is an amazing and easy look that you can wear to work and then out for happy hour - but of course you know for happy hour I'm expecting you to change into higher heels. ;-)

Shoedazzle Kamela

Oh, Kamela! I couldn't resist buying you when I saw the bold graphic prints and fun colors in the monthly Shoedazzle video but damn...this is one high platform and heel!

Everyone knows that I'm a girl that is a big fan of high heels and can handle some very tall heights. However, when I put these on, I definitely had to take two steps back and brace myself to walk in them.

Kamela does run true to size, however, since it is a peep toe and a skyscraper heel, I would recommend going up a half of a size if you can. After a while of walking around in them, my big toe started to hurt from all of the pressure of it being pushed to the front and out of the peep toe.

Red, White, & Chic - Fashion & Style

Now that I'm winding down from the weekend, I seriously think every holiday should fall on a Friday! It was so nice not having to worry about going to work the next day. I was also able to take advantage of some of these holiday sales and you know that made this weekend so much better!

Since I've been trying to sort through my closet and add new pieces to pull my outfits together, I put together a few looks inspired by the holiday!

I absolutely love this look for a fun date night on the town. It's sexy but simple enough so that you can still feel comfortable if it's a hot day out.

Ok I know that was kind of cheesy but that one line pretty much explains the reason for my absence. I told you all that I had to take a little break from my writing duties, reviews and posting pictures because I had to adjust to a few new things happening in my life.

Of course one can never fully adjust and I’m realizing there just isn’t enough time in the day to do everything that I need to do along with the things that I want to do (and sleep right?) but I’m figuring it all out day by day.

With all of that said, I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things, so it’s time to catch you all up on the pretty little things happening in Candy Coated Closets! Yes, my shoe pictures may have dwindled but that didn’t mean I would stop shopping! I mean, honestly!

Sakiko by GX by Gwen Stefani

Before I jump into this post, I have to apologize for my sudden disappearance. I just started a new job in NYC and I've had to jump in, yes heels first, practically 24/7. So while I'm going through this adjustment, the photos and content on here will be a little delayed. Never fear though, the shoe love will pick up again soon!

Met Gala Fashion - The Best and Worst of The Night

Since there was no live stream for the Gala this year, fashion addicts had to wait until photos popped up on various social media websites to see what the stars wore to this year's fashion prom. Now that we've seen all of the looks from the festivities...it's time to round up some of the best and worst looks of the night!

I absolutely love Cara Delevingne in this Stella McCartney outfit. The two piece pant and crop top is definitely a step away from the traditional fitted dresses or ball gowns that we are used to seeing on the red carpet and Cara pulls this look together flawlessly.

Janelle Monáe added a Tadashi Shoji cape to her signature black and white ensemble. The cape is absolutely stunning and paired very well with her red bold lip and side braid.

I can't really say much about Rihanna in Stella McCartney. The star was just featured as CFDA's 2014 fashion icon and she certainly lived up to the award wearing this all white two-piece to the Gala.

Hailee Steinfeld donned a classic rise-fall custom dress designed by Prabal Gurung. This was one of my favorite looks of the night because she looks effortlessly put together in this simple number. The pink lining that peeks through the bottom of the dress is a beautiful subtle touch of detail.

Hands down my favorite look (and couple of the night) comes from Blake Lively in a gorgeous custom designed Gucci silk chiffon blush gown that was emboridered with rose gold paillettes. She can do no wrong in this dress.

I'm not sure about Kate Upton in this Dolce & Gabbana dress. I swear every time I look at this picture, I must stare at it for at least five minutes before finding one thing I like about this look. She's wearing pretty accessories? Her makeup looks flawless? No? Seriously, Kate Upton is a gorgeous girl but personally, I don't think this dress flatters her at all.

Hmm, Katie Holmes in Marchesa...Now I thoroughly believe that she was watching Beauty and the Beast with Suri and then had the bright idea to have Belle's ball gown recreated for the Gala, which is a great idea but execution wise, I think someone missed the mark here.

Betsey Johnson Mimie Pump

Whenever I think of Betsey Johnson, I think of bright colors and over the top bold prints/patterns. Let's face it, fashion by Betsey Johnson is the type that makes a statement and makes sure you get noticed.

When I saw the Betsey Johnson Mimie Pumps, I knew I wanted to order them because of its subtle sexiness. The color is a gorgeous metallic rose gold that has a slight pewter undertone to it.

Shoe Details: - 4.5 inch heel - .5 inch platform - Cut out heart details at the upper back of the heel - Metallic leather upper - Round peep toe - Ankle Strap - Runs .5 size small

I have a few reservations about these shoes. Despite the fact that they are stunning, they do fit about a half of an inch too small. Because of that and your entire weight being distributed to your feet when you stand up, it causes extreme pressure on your big toe as it slides through the peep toe. I'd highly recommend going up half of a size and wearing a Foot Petals tip toes shoe pads with it if you decide to purchase these. Despite that, they are comfortable enough to wear for a night out and the heart emblem on the back of the heel gives it the normal Betsey Johnson sweet touch!

Sneakerheads - Happy Ultimate Sneaker Expo Day

Shoes? Great! High heels? Even better! Sneakers? Hmm...

I remember when I was younger...I would walk 15 miles to school in the snow with no coat and no shoes on ! You're probably giving me this face right now (-_-) and believe me, I deserve it (Ha!). But seriously, when I was a teenager, I was a huge tomboy. I wore everything from Tommy Hilfiger 2 sizes too big and I think I had 3 pairs of sneakers that I kept on heavy rotation. And let the Gods protect you if you ever suggested that I put on a pair of heels. It was not going to happen.

When I go to my glam closet now and look at my shoe collection, I can't help but laugh at how drastically things have changed. My style has evolved into this particular version of a high heel goddess, which is why sneakers aren't featured on here as much as I would like. However, I am constantly learning new things and evovling my style so I'm working on changing that soon.

While I was upstairs, I took a look across the hall at my brother's collection of shoes. The best way that I can describe this is to you is to tell you to imagine a male version of me...but as an extreme sneakerhead! There are so many stacks upon (leaning) stacks of sneakers in there, I didn't know where to begin for this post.

So I decided to grab the first two pairs that I was drawn to: the Nike Dunk High Premium SB Diamond's and the Nike Air Yeezy 2.

I know how rare it is to come across limited edition sneakers like these, so you know I had to quickly take these pictures and promptly put them back in their boxes as if I had never touched them.

So I have to ask all of my sneakerheads out there, what's in your collection?
